Winchcombe Medical Centre

Winchcombe Medical Centre is pleased to announce that we are now a research practice.

As a research practice we work in partnership with the National Institute for Health Research and other local GP practices who form the Cotswold Research Collaboration. This research is exciting as it helps to create new knowledge and inform good practice. Patients at our surgery have been able to take part in national studies from Oxford University, University of Southampton, Cardiff University. A wide variety of General Practice illnesses have been studied such as asthma, coughs, urine and ear infection to sore throats.

Current Studies we are participating in:

StartRight: The purpose of this study is to improve diagnosis of diabetes type and so improve treatment. The study is open to anyone who has been newly diagnosed with Diabetes within the last year and is aged between 18-50 years. Patients will be seen at the Gloucester Royal Hospital for this study.

APPLAUD: Attitudes and Preferences of People regarding Long term Antidepressant use for Depression. This study is undertaken by postal questionnaire survey and interview.

CLASP: This study aims to develop a web-based intervention in the form of self-management support for a healthy lifestyle and improved mood that will help increase the quality of life. Patients will take part for a year and be randomised into one of three groups to receive access to an intervention website or access to the website and nurse support or they may be in the control group.
