PRACTICE OBJECTIVES

THE PRACTICE POPULATION


The practice is the only Primary Care Facility serving the patients of Winchcombe. We provide general practice services to any patient living or staying within our area of Winchcombe and outlying villages.  The practice has been operating from our purpose-built premises at Greet Road since 2003.  Our premises have disabled access and parking facilities. We also have a dispensary and are a yellow fever centre.  We dispense medications to around 40% of our patients.

We have a larger population of elderly patients when compared to the county average, resulting in problems with social isolation, but with low levels of deprivation. The patient list has been gradually increasing in size and the practice now has over 7100 patients.

 

IMPROVING HEALTH


The practice has a strong clinical team which consists of Doctors, Nurse Practitioner, Practice Nurses, Health Care Assistants, District Nurses and associations with health visitors, midwives, school nurses and mental health nurses.  We also have sessions in the practice by a Podiatrist.

 

STAFF


Six doctors work from our surgery, providing general medical care.  We have 2  male and 3 female partners, making 4.1 whole time equivalents.  We also have one male Salaried GP who works part time.

The nursing staff working with the practice comprises on Nurse Practitioner/Manager, three part time Practice Nurses and two Health Care Assistants.  We also have 3 district nurses, 1 health visitor and 1 midwife.

The Practice Management team covers all Operational, Financial, HR, Strategic and Health and Safety matters within the Practice. They are supported by a Reception Manager, a Dispensary Manager and 12 staff, most of whom are part-time, engaged on reception, dispensary, secretarial and other administrative duties. 

We are a training practice for GP registrars, 2 of our Partners are GP trainers.  We are a research practice and a member of the Primary Care Research Network.  Patients may be approached to participate in approved research trials, whilst being under no pressure to do so.

 

 

EQUIPMENT AND FACILITIES


The practice has a wide range of modern medical equipment, and our policy is to extend the range as often as possible, and as need arises and resources allow.  The equipment is maintained in line with regulations. 

We are a paper-light practice, and use the SystmOne computer system.  We offer our patients on-line appointment booking and prescription requesting, and send appointment text reminders to patients who have provided a mobile phone number.
