Winchcombe Medical Centre

OUR MISSION  -  AS A PATIENT GROUP

  • To act as the voice of the patient population
  • To encourage increased communication and dialogue between patients and the practice
  • To allow patients to take more responsibility for their own healthcare
  • To support the practice and the local community
WHO IS ON THE PPG?

The group comprises a representative GP, Melissa Parsloe, Clare Burton plus patients drawn from across the surgery.

WHAT THE PPG IS NOT ABOUT

We will not deal with personal medical issues or individual patient complaints as there is already a well established procedure to deal with these.

WHERE ARE WE TODAY?

Since the introduction of the Patient Participation Group in June 2010, we have been extremely lucky to have had a very proactive and committed membership.

HOW TO JOIN?

Please contact either Melissa Parsloe or Clare Burton  on 01242 602307 who will forward your details to the PPG chair who will be in touch. You can just be a virtual member if you prefer.

Current Achievements

The members of the PPG have worked together to implement new ideas, increase health awareness in the community and support the practice. Some of our recent successes have included:

The organisation and management of several health awareness events. These have received extremely encouraging feedback and show the direct connection between the work of the PPG and a real positive impact for a large number of people. This gives patients a greater understanding of their most relevant and important health issues.

Health awareness events have covered a wide range of topics including:

  • Diabetes
  • Mental Health
  • Men’s Health
  • Teenage Health
  • Menopause
  • Lifestyle advice

At the Winchcombe Show, members actively encouraged alternatives to accident and emergency departments, in order to raise awareness of a very current problem in the NHS. This is an important issue in the community, which has a wide reaching effect on local hospitals.

Most Recently the PPG has been invaluable in helping to support the practice in developing its ideas and plans for the new extension. The extension will help to add further outpatient services to the local community, increasing the range of healthcare services available to patients.
